At SCSparesUK in Princes Risborough, we provide practical, hands-on mechanical servicing and repairs to keep domestic gardens, professional grounds, and local construction sites running smoothly.
Grounded in Real-World Experience
My start in garden maintenance began at age 14 with weekend gardening jobs, where I first started tinkering with machines that wouldn't run right. Later, I went off to university to study business management while working at PC World in sales and technical support—building a strong foundation in troubleshooting and customer service.
After returning to Buckinghamshire and getting back into gardening in 2013, my work naturally progressed to selling mower spares on eBay for a local business. While running their online shop, I spent years learning the mechanical trade inside and out from their experienced mechanic before eventually taking over his workbench alongside the eBay operation.
Following a brief stint in an office-based eBay role in early 2020, the COVID furlough gave me the push to build SCSparesUK independently. Starting with second-hand mower spares and expanding into full workshop servicing in 2022, I continue to grow the repair business today while running our busy eBay parts store and keeping my hand in with regular garden maintenance and hedge cutting jobs.
1. Walk-Behind & Push Mowers (Routine Servicing & Repairs)

Routine servicing and repairs on walk-behind mowers are our core specialty, offering a fast turnaround to get you back on the lawn quickly:
- Full Routine Servicing: Fresh engine oil changes, spark plug replacements, air filter maintenance, blade sharpening and balancing, and full chassis check-overs for Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Mountfield, Hayter, Viking, and Loncin mowers.
- Ultrasonic Carburettor Cleaning: Stale fuel is the primary cause of starting issues. We strip carburettors down completely and submerge them in an ultrasonic cleaning tank to remove microscopic varnish and blockages from internal jets.
- Mechanical & Drive Repairs: Replacing snapped pull cords, seized drive cables, worn self-propelled gearboxes, drive belts, and governor linkages.
2. Handheld 2-Stroke & Stihl Equipment

Chainsaws, strimmers, brushcutters, hedge cutters, and leaf blowers require accurate fuel metering and strong compression to run reliably:
- Carburettor Diaphragm & Gasket Rebuilds: Replacing stiff or perished internal pump membranes and gaskets, followed by tuning high and low mixture settings.
- Fuel & Ignition Systems: Swapping out perished fuel lines, cracked primer bulbs, blocked tank breathers, and faulty ignition coils on Stihl and other leading 2-stroke brands.
- Sharpening & General Repairs: Chainsaw chain sharpening, hedge cutter blade servicing, recoil starter repairs, and clutch replacements.
3. Lawn Tractors & Ride-On Mowers
Larger machines take heavy abuse over the mowing season. We offer comprehensive servicing and repairs for lawn tractors and ride-on mowers:
- Full Machine Servicing & Engines: Complete engine tune-ups, oil and filter changes, fuel system cleaning, valve clearances, and hydro-gear maintenance.
- Decks, Spindles, Blades & Belts: Cutter deck removal, bearing and spindle assembly rebuilds, blade sharpening/replacement, and complex drive or cutter belt routing.
- Clutches & Electrical Diagnostics: Troubleshooting and repairing PTO clutches (manual and electromagnetic), safety interlock switches, starter solenoids, ignition switches, and charging circuits.
4. Generators & Construction Site Machines
To keep local builders, landscapers, and tradespeople moving year-round, we repair and service small commercial plant and site equipment:
- Site Mixers & Wacker Plates: Engine overhauls, carburettor cleaning, centrifugal clutch replacements, drive belts, and throttle repairs on Belle mixers, compactors, and wacker plates.
- Generators & Breakers: Fuel system overhauls, starting faults, voltage/alternator checks on site generators, and mechanical repairs on petrol breakers.
- Power Tool Diagnostics: Fault finding, switch and cord replacements, carbon brushes, and mechanical repairs on selected site power tools.
5. Cordless & Robotic Mowers
As battery-powered equipment becomes more common, we provide practical mechanical and physical electrical support for cordless and robot mowers:
- Mechanical & Physical Repairs: Blade replacements, cutter deck cleaning, wheel motor and drive gear repairs, chassis fixes, and basic wiring/switch continuity diagnostics.
- A Note on Computer Diagnostics: Please note that certain cordless and robotic mower brands lock their internal software and electronics behind proprietary dealer computer diagnostic tools, which we are not able to do currently. If a fault is purely software or mainboard-locked, we will always give you honest advice upfront.
